Exploring Scodie Canyon

Got an opportunity to explore the nearly 2,000 acres of Scodie Canyon that justs into the Kiavah Wilderness.  This former hunting camp was purchased by the California Department of Fish & Game and is used for cattle grazing and game bird Heritage programs.  They have numerous guzzlers on the property, and most of it is beautiful grassland scenery.  The canyon is large and home to quail, chukar, ground squirrels, burrowing owls, and occasional visits from deer and bear.
The area is all granite and gravel floodplain, not too interesting geologically.  There are Indian sites that will remain unmarked.  I forsee this property being transferred to the Kiavah Wilderness in the not too distant future, what with the political pressure on hunting.
